Capture Scenes Using the DSMC2 BRAIN’s Powerful 8K Sensor
As projection technologies continue to advance in sophistication, shooting in 8K can future-proof your footage for decades. With the RED Weapon HELIUM, you get an 8K sensor with a super 35 sensor size which can produce 3.65 microns per pixel-the first of its kind. What this means is that the pixels are twice as dense as before, compared to the older models. By scaling it down 6K or 4K, you can sacrifice a few of those pixels and add pans, zooms, crops, or stabilization if you want to-all the while retaining the sharpness of your video.
Not only is the RED Weapon a powerful DSMC (Digital Stills and Motion Camera), but its carbon fiber construction also makes it a durable and lightweight camera. The Helium 8K sensor is able to shoot with a resolution of 8192 by 4320 that’s up to 60 fps. In a 2:4:1 aspect ratio, you can even go up to 75 fps. For other frame rate choices, options include 120 fps in 4K and 240 fps in 2K full format.
Using the HELIUM 8K sensor, the Weapon camera can capture the finest details at 35.4 megapixels. You can smooth out lines and shapes without the stair-stepping artifacts that occur in low-res footage. The brand has also scaled the dynamic range to 16.5 stops for this sensor, enabling you to represent hot highlights and deep shadows within the same frame.
Moreover, the brand’s REDCODE RAW file format, also known as R3D, provides you with a lot of flexibility during post-production. With the DSMC2, you get better creative freedom since you can simultaneously record in R3D, Apple ProRes, or Avid DNxHR/HD.
